Surgery
Our surgery service is comprised of talented, well trained, board certified
surgeons with varying specialties and interests. The surgery service evaluates
and manages many different types of patients including those with acute injuries
(Fractures, ACL injuries) to more chronic/ subtle problems (Abdominal masses,
laryngeal paralysis, hip dysplasia).
Hard tissue surguries include fracture repair, amputation, elective orthopedic
problem correction (TPLO, CrCL stabilization, MPL) to more advanced care of
canine hip dysplasia (FHO, TPO, THR). Each case is evaluated on an individual
basis and surgical recommendations are made based on the pet’s age, lifestyle
of both pet and owner, and overall return to optimum function post-op. The
method of surgical fixation for fractures will also be determined based on
your pet’s problem (plating vs. fixator) and the owner’s ability
to convalesce the patient post-op.
Examples of soft tissue surgeries include abdominal exploratory to remove
masses (tumors) or foreign bodies (toys), bladder surgery to remove stones,
and thoracic surgery (Thoracotomy, PDA) for chest masses or heart problems.
The decision to proceed with surgery can be a difficult one to make. We encourage
you to speak with the surgeon and your referring veterinarian prior to proceeding.
This will help address concerns, expectations and allow for comfort in proceeding
with surgery.
