Speciality Services
oncology
The diagnosis of cancer can be a devastating one for owners. We understand
how difficult it can be to accept the news that a loved one has cancer and
then need to deicide what to do next. The internal medicine specialists along
with the surgeons will help you make the best decision for your pet. Commonly
treated cancers include fibrosarcoma, lymphoma, mast cell tumors, and osteosarcoma
(bone cancer). Each patient is unique and the course of treatment for chemotherapy
is made based on your pet’s overall health and the owner’s comfort
level. Certain cancers can be treated with short courses of medications whereas
some types require months of treatment to bring to remission. The choice to
pursue chemotherapy is not for everyone and we strive to ensure the owner is
comfortable with his or her decision if they elect to proceed.
We also inform owners that some patients may relapse and treatment may be
needed to bring their pet back into remission. All along the way, the doctors
will continue to check you pet to ensure they are healthy enough for treatment
and that they have a good quality of life. The goal is to help the patient
feel better and to allow for prolonged time with the owner.
